Fire Season Has Begun

The Santa Anna Winds have started blowing as they do every fall. This begins our fire season and we have one going in Ventura right now. It is 4000 acres and they do not expect containment until last Sunday or Monday. We are not near any area where wild fires will affect us.

Fire fighters are using heavy lift sky crane helicopters, and standard smaller helicopters to carry 500 and more gallons of water to fight the fire. They also were using fixed wing aircraft to drop fire retardant chemicals on the fire.

Luckily, no homes have been lost in this fire. The fire came very close to many homes, but efforts of the firefighters kept any from burning.

If you live in any area where you are subject to natural disasters that can destroy your home, start a plan for evacuation TODAY. In the heat of the moment, you will forget some valuable or important things. If you have a plan and a list of what to take with you if you have to evacuate, you will be sure to have important papers, family treasures and that hidden $300 in the cookie jar.

Another idea is to have all of your family pictures in some kind of container. You can use box, a chest, or even a suitcase. When you have to leave you home in a hurry, you can grab your family’s history in pictures and go. Having them stored in one place makes this easy.
