Getting More Done
One of the things I find is the getting more done is easier when you have a clean and clear place to work. I can have pens, paper, calculators and reference material neatly around me and I feel more comfortable working than if I in a lot of clutter with papers stacked and scattered everywhere.
Whatever happened to the paperless office? I guess I have a lot less paper than I would if I didn’t have a computer, but on the other hand, the computer is sure responsible for printing up a lot of paper. I used to print everything out. Now I try to only print important things I need to read at the moment. Everything else gets saved as a file.
I have two effective ways of getting rid of some excess paper. One is to quit writing notes on scraps of paper or loose sheets of paper. I try to write my notes in a spiral notebook. Those spring wire bound notebooks with colored covers. This keeps everything on one place so I don’t have to go looking for notes. They are all in a notebook.
The other thing I often do is type my notes in a file I label, “daily notes”. I keep one file ongoing, so there are days and weeks of notes in one file. A which “SEARCH” will find any notes or numbers I need at the moment. Often I transfer notes from my notebook to the computer file. Once in the computer I cross them out on the paper or tear out the page and throw it away.
Right now I am writing this in our motorhome overlooking the ocean. The waves are breaking the beach and large rocks below the small cliff we are parked on. This is a hard life, but someone has to do it. I will do what work needs to be done today on my laptop with a connection to the internet through my cell phone.
I use Verizon to connect with the cell phone. The speed it faster than dial-up and slower than DSL. It is about 1/2 the speed of slow DSL and maybe 3 or more times faster than dial-up.
