Computer Problems Fixing Them Yourself
I was fighting an unknown computer problem all of yesterday morning. My wife could connect to the internet through her computer, buy I couldn’t. I restarted my computer. I turned it off and rebooted it. Nothing worked. BUT then I turned off the router, the modem and my computer and left them off a few minutes. Everything was fine when I turned things back on.
Computers are wonderful when they work, but they sure can give you fits when things go wrong. I am fairly handy with computers, but not that much of an expert. I can often solve problems, but I couldn’t tell you how to solve yours.
One very important thing you can do is BACK UP your computer on a regular basis. It is not IF your computer will fail, it is WHEN it will fail. The first thing I did when I started having problems, was to back up all files I hadn’t already backed up. It had been about a week since I had backed up last. I should really back up daily since I am running a business on the computer.
I used to back up on CDs, but have switched over to DVDs. A CD only holds about 670,000,000 bytes and a DVD holds about 4,500,000,000 bytes. You can put a LOT more information on a DVD. Instead of having a foot tall stack of old backups, you will only have a couple inches worth of disks.
Since Sharon's computer does not have a DVD burner and my laptop does not have a DVD burner, I bought an external USB DVD burner. I can use it on any of my computers and it easily plugs in and moves from place to place if needed.
If you get serious about making money online and use your computer to do it, you need to back up on a regular basis. You need all you financial records, email and data you create backed up. When you download programs, like the free Ebay books I gave you. You need to back those up.
One more thing. You should keep your backup disks at a different location than your computer. If a disaster destroys your computer, it may also destroy your backups if they are kept at the same location. A fireproof safe may not be adequate in a fire. Although it won’t get hot enough to set paper on fire, it may get hot enough inside to warp plastic CDs beyond use.
We had a pancake breakfast at the Elk’s Club this morning. Our local Country radio station was advertising it. Free for Veterans on this Veteran’s Day. $3 for Sharon. The Elk’s Club is open to the public for lunches, dinners and other activities in Ventura. I don’t know if that is how all Elk’s Clubs work, but we may just go back. It was a very nice club.
