It Rained Last Yesterday -- Homeless Home

Yesterday it poured rain here in Oxnard, California.  We are usually dry all summer long and the first rains are a welcome site.  Since I don’t have to commute to work I don’t mind the rain as much as I used to.  The problem with rain is the idiots on the road. We had an accident on the street outside our business last night.  The guy who caused it took off — hit and run — luckily I had a pen and wrote down his license plate number as he was hauling out of here.

The weather forecast says this rain will end today.  I am a happy camper. Well, I will be a happy camper when we go camping this weekend in nice weather.  It will be cold at Shaver Lake, California, but nice.  The temperatures have been in the upper 20’s at night and the 60’s in the day.  We have a forced air heater in the motorhome, so it will be easy to stay warm.

I told you about the homeless woman living in the bushes.  We see this fairly often here.  The woman I told you about slept on the ground in a sleeping bag.  She didn’t have a pad or mattress of any kind for comfort.  This rainy weather is a problem for the homeless. Their sleeping bags and belongings get soaked and they have a difficult time drying them out.

While we were walking Poky, I took a picture of where this homeless woman was living. This is after they trimmed the shrubs.  As you can see, it was not much of a “home”, but she felt fairly hidden and safe there.  Safe? As safe as she could feel considering her circumstances. It is sights like these that make me give money to homeless people even though I know for some I am being conned.

Did you get a notice in the mail or your local newspaper telling you how only $1.67 will feed a homeless person a nice Thanksgiving meal?  I am asking you to send a $5 or $10 bill to the organization. If you can afford more, give a little more.  Maybe what you give will make a difference.

As you can see, this “homeless home” wasn’t much.
