Do It Yourself Propane Fireplace
Commercial portable propane fireplaces sell of about $150. I decided to try making one myself. Yesterday, I bought a used Magma marine BBQ ($140 new) at a boater’s swap meet. It was in great shape.
Next I bought a bag of vermiculite at our local nursery for under $4. Vermiculite is used in the “real” propane fireplaces.
I took the BBQ apart and sprayed it with oven cleaner to get it cleaned it up. .
The Magma came with volcanic rocks, so I put the volcanic rocks on top of the vermiculite. When I lit my new UNDER $10 fire pit, it put out a nice small fire in the volcanic rock. It isn’t as high a flame as in the picture below. I may have to remove the pressure regulator so I get more gas. Regardless it still puts out a pretty little fire.
