Jan 23, '05 A Drive Up The Coast

It is a foggy morning here today. Looking out the window, visibility is less than 1 block. It is strange, I used to live inland, which is over the mountains from here. The fog I saw there was much thicker than any I have seen living here on the coast. Fog inland was so thick you had to drive very slow and could barely see the center lines on the road just in front of you. I have never experienced that kind of fog in our 6 years at the beach.

Yesterday was a warm and sunny day. Because of the beautiful day, we took a drive. Stopped at a city park and walked through it. We stopped to watch grammar school aged children play soccer. WOW! I wish I had that much energy. I was rooting for BOTH teams. The kids deserve to win, whoever wins. Of course, they may not know it but at the end of the game, both sides have won.

There are eucalyptus trees in the park.
This picture of their bark reminded me
of the evil trees in animated movies.
Trr Bark

Someone told me that one of the beaches we liked to go to was open again after the recent California rain storms. We drove up there, but the off ramp said, "RESIDENTS ONLY -- CHP ON DUTY" They are still keeping the road closed for repair and cleanup. This meant get off on the next exit, which was also "RESIDENTS ONLY" We had to continue our drive up the coast past La Conchita, where the killer mudslide destroyed homes and lives. Traffic by that
community is very slow. There is quite a back up.

Driving back, we saw cars parked at the beach we wanted to go to. We saw cars on the overlook where we often park to watch the ocean. HMMMMMmmmmm!!! Obviously the CHP is not enforcing the residents only sign.
